Sparkle! Artist Profile - Laura Steadman

EllJay Design by Laura Steadman

Born and raised in Regina, SK, Laura has been involved in arts and crafts for as long as she can remember. She loves the challenge of taking things and transforming them into other things!  She has had many creative interests over the years including cross stitch and Hardanger embroidery, crochet, designing and making teddy bears, origami as well as drawing and painting.  It was after her step-father had taken a jewellery class that her love for making jewellery was born. She was fascinated by the pieces he made!  Several years later, as a gift, her mother signed her up for that same jewellery class.

Completely hooked, Laura fell in love with  working with silver and it has become her passion!  It is all about the process. Laura loves to incorporate texture and movement in her work.  She finds it fascinating to see how raw sheet and wire can be transformed through various methods into a unique piece of art that can be worn!

She began taking lampwork classes shortly after the jewellery class and was captivated by the way glass is transformed from a simple rod into a wonderful one-of-a-kind bead. Her lampwork beads and cabochons are also used in her jewellery.

Laura is a founding member of JewelleryWon and a Juried Member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council.  She continues to take classes and work in her Regina studio.
